Land SPOT Viewer Software
The LAND SPOT Viewer is a PC–based utility that allows you to remotely configure, display and log view data from up to 254 different SPOT thermometer locations. It communicates with the instruments over TCP/IP. SPOT Viewer is the perfect choice for smaller operations where advanced process control systems may be absent. The key features of the SPOT Viewer interface are:
- Instrument view – this reproduces the control panel of the LAND spot thermometer. It displays temperature values and allows access to the thermometer menu system. It also allows you to take a snapshot image of the target being viewed by the thermometer.
- Grid view – a tabulated view of temperature readings in date/time order.
- Trend view – a graphical trace of temperature readings, also in date/time order.
- Menu – provides access to additional options i.e. Data–logger and User Management
- Status bar – gives an overview of the system connections and displays error messages in the event of a fault.
There are five levels of user in the SPOT Viewer application; Guest, Operator, Supervisor, Plant Engineer, and Administrator. Users can be added at any time and assigned any of the permissions levels.
If either the Target Temperature or Instrument Temperature go into an alarm state (e.g. High Target temperature, Low Instrument temperature etc), then the frame around the temperature value is shown in red. The state of the alarm is indicated by an arrow: a downward pointing arrow indicates a low target or instrument temperature; An upward pointing arrow indicates a high target or instrument temperature alarm.
The Image Capture button, when pressed, will capture and display a JPG image from the thermometer viewfinder.
The Menu access button opens the Settings menu, which allows you to view and update the system settings.
The Grid view can show live and historical temperature trend data for the instrument.
- Live Mode – The grid continually updates with the live temperature data from the instrument.
- Historical Mode – This mode allows the user to select and view logged data. When the grid view first enters historical mode all data that is present in the log file is displayed. The range of the stored data displayed in the grid can be selected by creating filters for the data in each column of the table.
If a temperature value is not available for a given date and time, then this is indicated in the grid.
A typical Trend View is shown below. The Trend View provides a view of live and historical temperature trend data for the instrument. A cursor provides detailed information about each data point.
There are two Trend Modes:
- Live Mode – Displays a live trend of temperature data from the instrument. The horizontal axis time period is defined by the interval setting located in the trend settings window. The vertical axis automatically ranges to fit the current values.
- Historical Mode – This mode allows the user to view stored data. The range of the stored data displayed can be selected using date and time selection.
For each temperature trend in the view, statistical analysis is performed to calculate the minimum, mean, maximum value, and rate of change.
The Status Bar shows the following status information:
- Connection status: Current status of the instrument communications.
- Error status: If an error occurs while the software is running the status bar will become red with the error description displayed.
- User name: Name of the currently logged in user.
